Wasn't sarge the last debian distribution to support the 2.4 kernel series? That might have been quite a good reason for delaying upgrades (third party anyone?). I found debian upgrades quite painless ... just the Kernel issue is a hard limit. Well, I guess I have to bite the carrot ....

No udev, obviously, but it's a server, so who cares? So long as glibc and the core system utilities (e.g. filesystem stuff) maintains compatibility, no problem.
