Timesys Announces Embedded Linux Support for Atmel AT91SAM9RL Microcontrollers
Timesys Announces Embedded Linux Support for Atmel
AT91SAM9RL Microcontrollers
Linux Software Subscription Accelerates Embedded Development
PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 2008--Timesys Corporation
(http://www.timesys.com), a premier provider of embedded Linux
software solutions, today announced Linux support for the AT91SAM9RL
microcontroller from Atmel. Ideal for rapid design validation, Timesys
is offering a free Board Support Package (BSP) for the Atmel 9RL.
Additionally, the free Atmel BSP
(http://www.timesys.com/services/atmel.htm) can be upgraded to a full
LinuxLink subscription, providing a powerful suite of software, tools
and support to accelerate the development of a custom Linux platform.
Both the free BSP and LinuxLink subscription are available at
http://www.timesys.com/services/atmel.htm.
The free BSP enables application developers to rapidly validate
Linux on the AT91SAM9RL-EK Development Board. This BSP includes
Atmel's Linux kernel and drivers, BusyBox utilities for basic commands
and features, and a Linux host/cross toolchain capable of re-building
the Linux kernel and the basic packages included in the Atmel BSP.
Together with a full documentation set and basic support, this
offering provides a ready-to-use package to validate Linux with the
Atmel 9RL microcontroller.
By upgrading to a full LinuxLink subscription, application
developers can rapidly "roll their own" customized embedded Linux
software platform, with access to an expanded, regularly updated list
of Linux components optimized for the AT91SAM9RL, including the 2.6.22
Linux kernel, hundreds of packages pre-compiled for use with the 9RL,
and a reference distribution that provides an integrated and tested
starting point for platform customization. The LinuxLink subscription
also includes a robust collection of open source and Timesys-developed
tools, including the TimeStorm Eclipse-based IDE, as well as extensive
documentation and support.
"We are pleased to expand our support of Atmel's popular ARM-based
microcontrollers with the AT91SAM9RL," said Greg Quiggle, Vice
President of Sales & Marketing at Timesys. "LinuxLink by Timesys is a
unique web-based offering that enables Atmel customers to efficiently
develop and maintain a custom Linux platform for a wide variety of
embedded applications."
LinuxLink for AT91SAM9RL will be demonstrated in the Timesys booth
(#11-113) at the Embedded World conference in Nuremberg, Germany on
February 26-28, 2008. Timesys will also be demonstrating an
AT91SAM9RL-EK board running multimedia applications from LinuxLink.
