Works fine with XEmacs on a 64-bit system. It took some time loading but editing works well.
M-x goto-line 1000000 takes 2-3 seconds.

I remember using Emacs to edit files in the 10-20 MB range more than a decade ago.

Btw, I didn't have a 750 MB textfile so I open a iso-image instead
(ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso).
