As a point of order, Gentoo actually *already* does this. It starts with runlevel "boot" and then
moves to runlevel "default." The scripts themselves contain information about dependencies and
the init system takes care of everything. It's actually fairly nice.

Of course, I've never actually set up my system to actually start X from my init scripts, so I'm
not sure what that would entail...
