Heh :-) I remember moving from 2.2.x to 2.4 with the 2.4.15 kernel, which too had a major filesystem corruption bug. This bug was triggered when unmounting a filesystem with "dirty" inodes. They released 2.4.16 just after to correct this single bug, but didn't mark 2.4.15 as dontuse.
