I'm not sure about your build problems with kdenlive. I just run:

make -f admin/Makefile.common
%configure --with-qt-dir=/usr/lib/qt-3.3
make -j1

I have a fedora spec for it and it's dependencies to use, if you so desire:
ftp://ftp.blagblagblag.org/pub/BLAG/linux/70000/en/os/i38...
