TAIPEI, TAIWAN January 14, 2008
OpenMoko, creator of the first completely integrated open source
mobile platform, today announced it has inked a deal with mobile
device distributor, Pulster, in Germany. The agreement comes fresh
on the heels of Openmoko's announcement that it has become an
independent subsidiary of Taiwan powerhouse, FIC. Pulster specializes
in online sales of mobile devices, selling into the industrial and
education markets with focus on Linux-based solutions.
Pulster will distribute
the Neo 1973 and Neo FreeRunner, a Wi-Fi-enabled mobile device with
sophisticated graphics capable of handing a new generation of open
source mobile applications. OpenMoko anticipates success for
FreeRunner based on early popularity of the company's first mobile
platform, the Neo 1973.
"Distribution is the key to popularizing open source devices in the industrial,
education, and consumer markets," said Sean Moss-Pultz, CEO of
OpenMoko. "As we forge new ground with breakthrough devices built
on the OpenMoko Neo mobile platform, we rely on knowledgeable
distributors. . Pulster has demonstrated its commitment to furthering
open source and brings our platform to important markets."
"The first version of the Neo was very popular in Germany," said Harry
Tsai, Sales Manager OpenMoko "More units per capita were sold in
Germany than anywhere else in the world. We expect Pulster to
provide excellent momentum for FreeRunner, the next version of the
Neo, using their ability to penetrate markets seeking to embrace the
new generation of free and open source devices."
"We are gratified to be the lead distributor for OpenMoko's latest
product," said Christoph Pulster, CEO Pulster. "We know the needs
of the the German market and the timing is ideal for a company with
the expertise and flexibility of OpenMoko and backing of FIC to launch
FOSS products into the German consumer and industrial markets."
