Pugs (implemented in Haskell... serious WTF territory there) Pugs revitalised Perl6 almost overnight; without it there would likely be nothing. And arguably Haskell was a big part of that success. Multiple implementations of the same language passing the a shared test suite isnt what I expected its hard enough coding for one; just look at the C# compiler bugs and runtime cockups! Precisely why one needs multiple implementations.

Unless you're a PHB, and terrified about bouts of creativity you can't reproduce at the wave of a wand. Celebrate the creativity, and ponder how to make it infectious, yet manageable.
