Another BusyBox lawsuit settled

The Software Freedom Law Center has sent out a press release announcing the settlement of the GPL-infringement suit filed on behalf of the BusyBox developers against Xterasys. "Once SFLC verifies that the complete source code is available, Xterasys' full rights to distribute BusyBox under the GPL will be reinstated. Additionally, Xterasys has agreed to appoint an internal Open Source Compliance Officer to monitor and ensure GPL compliance, and to notify previous recipients of BusyBox from Xterasys of their rights to the software under the GPL. Xterasys will also pay an undisclosed amount of financial consideration to the plaintiffs."

Two GPL settlements in such a short time, nice! gpl-violations.org could only dream about that
;-)

I don't really understand what you want to say by that. There is no competition between
different entities, but rather cooperation and common pull in one direction.

The gpl-violations.org project mainly just doesn't have the time to publicize each and every
case that was successfully resolved, particularly all the ones that are settled out of court
without any injunctive relief or any other court order.

And obviously we are very happy about the success of finally seeing legal enforcement of the
GPL in the US. After all the years of more quiet/tolerant enforcement by the FSF, this is
good news.

Also, I believe it is good to see that GPL enforcement is done by multiple entities,
particularly entities outside of the FSF. This is only logical, since enforcement is the
'duty' of the copyright holders, and the FSF only holds copyright on official GNU/FSF
projects.

Congratulations to Eben Moglen and his team at SFLC. Well Done :)
