Final report from DebConf 7

A report from the 7th Debian Developers' Conference, held last June in Edinburgh, Scotland, has been posted as a 30-page PDF file. "Over 400 people took part in this year's conference: listening to the talks; discussing development issues; working closely with their fellow developers. And, of course, enjoying themselves. This report hopes to provide some insight into DebConf for those who were unable to attend. It will cover the major parts of DebConf and provide a look at the work of the organising team. It will also include the personal impressions of some of the attendees." It's clear that quite a bit of time went into the creation of this document.

Um, just wondering, but who is the guy whose image was digitally pasted in up in the upper
right corner of the group shot (right next to the woman with the blip of red in her hair?) I
ran across it and thought it looked funny, but couldn't quite tell if it was retouched; after
downloading the source code of the report, the original image shows it very clearly.

That's Aigars Mahinovs, the Debian Developer that happens to be an excellent photographer.

Sound like a great conference. A couple more quotes:

"My first DebConf was probably the best single
week of my entire life. Yeah, it was that
awesome." (David Nusinow, p14)

"The Debian Tartan is yet another demonstration
of what can be be achieved when you combine
an, on the face of it foolish, idea with well
motivated people who lack an imagination for
the problems that might be involved." (Read
about the design of the Debian tartan on p12).

I particularly liked the bit about how they went to a venue to make some music, and ended up
working through the night fixing the organ! Very hacker-ish in the best sense.
