French "Cahier de l'admin Debian Etch" published (Eyrolles)
Raphaël Hertzog's "Cahier de l'admin Debian", published in 2004, has recently been updated. Since it now covers the Etch version of Debian, and has been expanded quite a bit, it has also been renamed to "Cahier de l'admin Debian Etch", and is still published by Eyrolles. This new book is more than just a new edition. Of course, it has been updated to fully describe everything that's new in Etch, while pointing out the differences with Sarge. But it has also gained two whole new chapters: one on advanced administration (RAID, LVM, automated installations through FAI and the Debian installer, virtualisation, etc.), and one on security (firewall, IDS/NIDS, SELinux, and a general approach to security). A new appendix will cater to the needs of people new to Unix-like computing, with a brief crash-course on processes, filesystems, basic commands and so on. Being updated and expanded, it was co-authored by Raphaël Hertzog and Roland Mas, both long-time Debian developers. More information on the book, including the table of contents, two freely downloadable chapters, and a few goodies are available on the book's website.
