Parent article: GCC unplugged
People should never forget why a project like gcc was started. Enhancing
gcc with a modular engine ain't not a bad idea though, as new
functionality can be added without the gcc core code maintainers
approval.
But be very aware though that allowing proprietary modules into gcc will
assure that certain skull and bastard types with large pockets are going
to invest into proprietary addons, while the core gcc project will be put
on water and bread. Such tilted situations only lead to more trouble,
where cash loaded proprietary gcc startups surely will try to snowball
their demands into the gcc core project.
