>I have a different fear: that gcc will become increasing irrelevant, as more and more new programmers learn to work on alternative free compilers instead. Even if competitors gain mindshare, GCC will remain the IE of compilers: we may feel strongly about it, but anyone desiring an audience will have to respect and compile against GCC for the foreseeable future.
