Lots of stable kernel updates

Back on Wednesday, Greg Kroah-Hartman started a new stable update review with this note: "Ok, I've been slacking on the -stable front for a bit here, and didn't realize how far behind I've gotten. Everyone has been sending patches in, which is great, but now we are facing a HUGE 114 patch release." As a way of making life easier for reviewers, he split those patches into several distinct chunks, each of which has now come out as a stable release. So we have 2.6.23.2 (core kernel changes), 2.6.23.3 (architecture-specific fixes), 2.6.23.4 (networking), 2.6.23.5 (network drivers), 2.6.23.6 (other drivers), 2.6.23.7 (filesystems), and 2.6.23.8 (security fixes - but note that there are security-related fixes in the other updates too).

For good measure, 2.6.22.13 was also released with (only) security fixes.

Just to be clear, here: if I were to apply 2.6.22.13, would I get the cumulative effects of
the rest? Or am I going to have to apply all of them?

The others are updates to 2.6.23

Oh, right. Geez, what is wrong with me today? Don't answer that. :-)

Security last?

I would have preferred that the first patch to be applied (2.6.23.2) would be the security fixes, particularly because he describes them as "serious" security fixes.

I suspect your best strategy in that case would be to apply the 2.6.22.16 patch (to a 2.6.22.*
base) first; then apply any 2.6.23 patch to that.

However you might have to resolve some collisions yourself in that case.

Well, can't you see the scheme? Obviously, putting the security patches last makes everyone
upgrade to 2.6.23.8, and not "something" with 2 <= x <= 8.

This is not very clear. Am I safe with applying .8 only? The security fixes look critical.

2.6.23.8 is the latest 2.6.23-stable and incorporates all the earlier
ones, so yes.
