Maybe they just wanted a browser that is / can be properly integrated to
the Desktop.

(At logout there's dialog saying that Firefox doesn't support session
management and at re-login & Firefox restart Firefox asks whether I want
to restore its session because it thinks it crashed. Mozilla Bugzilla bug
about supporting the standard session management is 6 years(!) old. The X
session management isn't exactly new technology either... As Firefox
already support session management internally, it shouldn't be a large job
to make it integrated with desktop too, like every other application in
Gnome, KDE etc. And this is not the only issue in Firefox.)
