Bug Labs introduces the BUG platform

Bug Labs has announced the BUG modular consumer electronics platform. "BUG is a collection of easy-to-use, open source hardware modules, each capable of producing one or more Web services. These modules snap together physically and the services connect together logically to enable users to easily build, program and share innovative devices and applications. With BUG, we don't define the final products - you do. BUGbase is the foundation of your BUG device. It's a fully programmable and "hackable" Linux computer, equipped with a fast CPU, 128MB RAM, built-in WiFi, rechargeable battery, USB, Ethernet, and a small LCD with button controls."

I'm looking forward to seeing the teleporter module (supposedly available Q1 2008). But maybe
that's just vaporware.... ;)

No, I'm not kidding. Look at their site.

something tells me that module may be a community project more then anything else...

still, that they include it suggests to me that this is one of those companies that
understands humor. that, that they call their product(s) bug-something, and that they use a
.net rather then .com address ;)

Podcast interview with founder Peter Semmelhack. The cool thing about this is that each device has a bunch of REST URLs to which you can GET and POST stuff, so using a bunch of these to grab and share data is just HTTP client programming.

Now THIS looks interesting. I can definitely see lots of potential here.

I do hope they'll be distributing source with the main module, though? It IS kind of necessary, what with the GPL and all...
