Kernel release status
The current 2.6 prepatch is 2.6.24-rc1, released by Linus on
October 23. As Linus noted
when tagging the release:
The patch is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly
hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long
way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to how
big the patch from 2.6.23 is.

As of this writing, no patches have been merged into the mainline git repository since the -rc1 release. There have also been no -mm releases over the last week. For older kernels: 2.6.20.21 was released on October 17 with a few dozen patches including a couple of security fixes. 2.6.16.56-rc1 came out on October 20; it has a dozen or so patches, again with a couple of security fixes.
