The current stable 2.6 release is 2.6.23, released, finally, on October 9. For those just tuning in, 2.6.23 includes the CFS CPU scheduler, the fallocate() system call, a new generic SCSI driver, some memory fragmentation avoidance work, SMP guest support in KVM, the UIO user-space driver framework, Lguest, and much more. See the KernelNewbies 2.6.23 page for vast amounts of information or the long-format changelog for the full list of changesets in 2.6.23.

The 2.6.22.10 stable update was released on October 10 with about one dozen fixes.

For older kernels: 2.6.16.54 was released on October 7 with a handful of changes, mostly in the MD subsystem. 2.6.16.55-rc1, released on the same day, has fixes for several security issues.
