The Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC), has announced that Mark Webbink has
joined its board of directors. "Webbink comes to SFLC from Red Hat,
the premiere Linux and open source vendor, where he served as its first
general counsel beginning in 2000. In 2004, he became Red Hat's deputy
general counsel for intellectual property, a position he served in until
his retirement in August 2007. During his tenure with Red Hat, Webbink
wrote and spoke extensively on the subjects of open source software,
software patents, and patent reform."
KnowledgeTree has announced the launch of KnowledgeTreeLive, a software-as-a-service document
management application built on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud
and the rPath virtual appliance platform.
"The KnowledgeTreeLive on-demand document management service brings the
powerful capabilities of the open source KnowledgeTree application to
users wishing to subscribe to an easy to use, cost-effective and
secure hosted application. The KnowledgeTreeLive service includes
document management and collaboration features such as document

The Linux Professional Institute has announces new affiliates in Africa.
The LPI "announced new affiliates in East Africa (Uganda,
Kenya, Tanzania) and Nigeria.
"These two new affiliates are indicative of the growing importance of
Linux and Open Source Software both in the field of education and IT
capacity development in Africa," said John Meaney, LPI Area Operations
Manager for EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa). Mr. Meaney noted
that there was significant interest in the region in Linux
professionalism and that he was involved in ongoing discussions with
other potential affiliates for the Middle East and Africa."
Oracle has
announced the availability of an open-source preview release of OCI8.
"Continuing to

Version 11.2 of Scalix has been announced.

TransGaming has announced that it has renewed an OEM agreement with Mandriva.
"TransGaming Inc., a leading developer of
software portability products for the electronic entertainment industry, announced today the
renewal of the OEM and distribution agreement with Mandriva, the leading retail distribution for
the Linux operating system. Under this agreement, MandrivaLinux 2008 customers will receive access
to TransGaming's Cedega product that will allow them to play hundreds of PC games out-of-the-box."
