I'm thinking about getting a 1420N with Ubuntu for my wife, who is becoming a realtor. She (thinks she) wants Windows, but already uses Ubuntu on my laptop without much trouble. This would be a great "common user" test I think.
One thing I'm wondering is how well these things can hibernate and resume reliably. That's one of the few complaints I have with my current setup (ASUS Z84JP) -- while hibernate seems to work fine, usually wireless doesn't come back up. Since my home uses wireless, that means I have to go ahead and do a full reboot. I think that if this didn't work reliably, that would be the biggest disadvantage for my wife, as opposed to a Windows system.
Also, any idea of the timeline of Gutsy Gibbon support? Can we expect it to be preloaded within a few weeks of its release? I may buy the laptop in early November. Related, the current model has 3945 wireless. Will 4695 be introduced at the same time as Gutsy ships with it?
Thanks!

Couple questions Posted Oct 4, 2007 12:59 UTC (Thu) by intgr (subscriber, #39733) [Link] usually wireless doesn't come back up.A temporary hack is to unload the wireless driver module before suspending and re-load it afterwards. You will have to stop the network interface, but at least you won't have to reboot.
