NDAs vary quite considerably; the last NDA I was under for a chip was
simply because the "documentation" consisted of the VHDL source for the
various bits of chip, an e-mail address for the hardware team
responsible, and a phone number to get hold of the team leader.
I was permitted to use this information to document the chip on
a "pins" basis; basically, I couldn't say how the chip did
something, but I could say things like "the value in the register at
offset 0x2c controls the width of the output pulse on pin 23. It's a
count of the number of pulses of XTAL1 (wired between pins 5 and 6) for
which pin 23 stays high". An NDA of this form would let Greg release both
a driver and register-level documentation for the chip he's working on.
