The resolution issue with Windows' font rendering has driven me insane for years, since I like to use high resolution displays. You can force it to render fonts at (closer to) real physical sizes but it's still inaccurate and it breaks other parts of the UI (though in less annoying ways).
I'm personally pretty happy with font rendering under Linux these days, though there's definitely room for improvement and some apps (eg Firefox) do a rather poor job.
