Binary drivers

While I tend to agree with other commenters above who complain about the
attempt to dismiss distros as an entity in their own right, I don't see
any real reason why a printer driver can't be installed on any distro.

What DOES worry me is the attempt to make binary drivers legitimate. x86
Linux (or x86 any other OS) is NOT the only architecture out there. Even
people who've never used anything but PCs should appreciate this, now that
we're moving to 64-bit libraries, modified kernels for virtualisation,
etc.

Hardware vendors should publish specs, and let software people deal with
it in their own way; it's that simple. If they have nice algorithms, then
they should share them, and compete based on the quality of hardware they
sell.

Gutenprint (http://gutenprint.org or http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net) always welcomes people who want to implement (legally!) raster drivers for new printers.
