Palm tables Linux-based Foleo (LinuxDevices)

LinuxDevices covers Palm's decision to drop the planned Linux-based Foleo, which was supposed to be an peripheral for their Treo smartphones. There are plans to revamp the device after hearing generally negative market feedback. "Palm announced the Foleo in May, describing it as a new class of mobile device designed to expand the email, Internet, and productivity application capabilities of mobile phones such Palm's Treo, by adding a full-size keyboard and a larger screen. In announcing the Foleo, Palm Founder Jeff Hawkins predicted it would prove more successful than Palm's original Palm Pilot, and more successful than Palm's current Treo smartphones."

Interesting to note that, to me, the body of this article directly contradicted the title. In most non-American dialects of English "to table" means "to propose" rather than what I guess must mean "to cancel". LWN should be careful of idioms that are ambiguous internationally.

I'm hoping we'll get similar hardware (maybe some faster CPU for Flash video) but the unified Linux across Foleo and Treo (aka Palm OS II). I still want a nice, small, instant-on Linux laptop with Flash storage... Though it would be nicer if they did it as an Ubuntu variant.

Hopefully the Foleo will see the light of day eventaully. I dig the form factor and battery life. Having a trackpoint keyboard is a big bonus. The price was a bit high, but I was prepared to get one on sale.
