Press release

Next generation multimedia architecture now available for free

Motama releases new downloadable version of its software technology
for all major operating systems: Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X

Motama's key technology provides a ground-breaking new software
solution - called Network-Integrated Multimedia Middleware (NMM) -
which allows for developing distributed and networked multimedia
applications easily. For the first time, Motama now offers a greatly
improved and extended version of its NMM technology as free download
from the company's homepage at http://www.motama.com/nmm.html. The
software is available for all major operating systems, most
importantly for Windows XP and Vista, Mac OS X, Linux, and even for
Linux running on the Playstation 3. An additionally provided Software
Developer Kit (SDK) together with comprehensive documentation allows
software developers to get started quickly and easily with developing
applications or plug-ins on top of NMM.

In contrast to other multimedia architectures, NMM enables seamless
networking - within the home network and beyond. The software allows
to transparently connect all multimedia devices and to extend control
to the network. This results in completely new 'virtual' devices. For
example, a mobile phone can be used for controlling a satellite
receiver in the living room, while the received TV show can be
presented simultaneously on several TV sets or displays connected to
the home network.

Music enthusiasts will embrace the possibilities offered through
products driven by NMM technology: Music stored or received anywhere
within the home network, can be enjoyed on multiple systems, for
example distributed to all rooms of a house. 'What is particularly
impressing is the quality of distributed synchronous rendering that
can be achieved with NMM', explains Marco Lohse, one of the founders
of Motama. Media presentations in multi-room environments show no
perceivable delay or echo - despite the fact that existing commodity
wired or wireless technology is used instead of traditional analog
cables. In addition, a so-called 'follow-me' feature allows to
seamlessly hand over media rendering between output devices when the
user moves from one room to another.

As another distinct feature, NMM truly operates cross-platform:
Arbitrary wired and wireless networks and all major operating systems
are supported. Applications developed for one operating system can be
run on any other supported platform with only little or no
change. 'Additionally, this allows for a single multimedia application
to span across a number of heterogeneous devices, ranging from
embedded systems, to PCs, to powerful servers and large-scale
computing clusters', explains Michael Repplinger, co-founder of
Motama.

The new version of NMM is released by Motama under a dual-license:
While companies can benefit from professional support and full
warranty of the commercial version of NMM, the software can be used in
Open Source and research projects for free.
