I tend to think the problem is Fedora Core, as my experience with Ubuntu, Gentoo and Slackware has been overwhelmingly positive.

Vista Aiding Linux Desktop, Strategist Says (eWeek) Posted Aug 10, 2007 14:16 UTC (Fri) by vonbrand (subscriber, #4458) [Link] I'm a long time Fedora user, and have never seen such erratic behavior (except when Fedora on x86_64 was very green; and on a machine with a broken fan, which lead to overheating funnies).
