"So, soon, there will be no hardware support for APM at all; it is a dead standard."
Nitpick/correction: soon, there will be no *new* hardware support for APM anymore. Old APM hardware will still exist, and people will still want to run Linux on it. Not everyone's using the latest and greatest all the time.
