> That other 10% that needs good OpenGL performance is in a bit of a quandary anyway -- sure the ATI and Nvidia cards are much, much faster but their drivers don't support the eye candy APIs leaving that speed useless to all but Linux gamers (an odd notion that) and movie animators.
Huh? Last I checked, the nvidia binary 3D driver is the *only* one that directly supports the eye-candy APIs. I.E. beryl can technically run (sort of) using ATI or Intel video cards, with the aid of the aiglx or xgl kludge, but only nvidia supports beryl directly.
And what is that about linux gaming being an odd notion? Technically speaking, linux is a very good platform for gaming - fast networking, low latency, good graphics, and a number of the top 3D FPS games have native linux ports, which run every bit as fast as they do on a windoze pc. Don't confuse "vendor doesn't have a linux version" with "linux is incapable of running that sort of game".
