Free Valentina Community Database Server Released
Ultra-fast Valentina 3.1 Developer Technology Available in Free Community
Edition on Linux
June 29, 2007. Beaverton, Oregon-based Paradigma Software, Inc announces the
release of version 3.1 of its ultra fast database technology and the first
release of Valentina Community Server, a free product that runs on the Linux
platform.
Valentina technology release 3.1 provides many improvements to the
technologies that set Valentina apart from other databases. These features
include:
Link Refactoring Commands. New native API methods VLink2.CopyLinksTo() and
VLink2.CopyLinksFrom(), plus SQL COPY LINKS are powerful and flexible
methods to convert from relational database M:M schemas to much, much faster
Binary Link M:M. The same techniques support translations between Relational
FK, Binary Links and ObjectPtrs.
Optimized Binary Links: 1:M, M:1 and 1:1. Developers have long enjoyed using
ObjectPtr for fast links. Improvements to Binary Links indicate that in many
circumstances, the speed improvements are 5 to 6 times greater than
ObjectPtrs.
Valentina technology release 3.1 also included other improvements and
enhancements across all development kits and across all supported operating
systems (Windows, Mac OS X and Linux). Version 3.1 is an update to the
Valentina 3.x release, which added stored procedures, triggers, views, hot
back up, event scheduling and more to the product line. Porting from other
databases such as mySQL mean smaller databases and much faster response
times on complex queries. In addition to supporting Windows, Mac OS X and
Linux (SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop, Fedora Core), Paradigma Software also
officially supports Ubuntu 6.x and higher.
Paradigma Software also announces the immediate availability of Valentina
Community Server. Valentina Community Server is a free, unlimited connection
database server. Valentina Community Server includes support for scripting
via PHP 4 or PHP 5 with a server component included in the installation.
Support for Ruby on Rails is under development. Under its special license,
academic users as well as most commercial use of Valentina Community Server
is allowed (see license for more information).
"ISPs will find Valentina an interesting alternative offering to mySQL. One
of our customers recently ported their mySQL based solution to Valentina in
less than four hours. Now large SELECT statements that ran over five minutes
under mySQL take less than five seconds with Valentina 3," said Lynn
Fredricks, president of Paradigma Software.
Detailed information about Valentina Community Server and immediate download
of the product is available through the Paradigma Software website.
