I've been okay with the monthly plan for the very reason that it seemed rather uncertain how long this great site would last. But, if a longer subscription that is relatively assured of being fulfilled were available, and it helped both reduce my cost and yours ... then it's a win-win situation. I'd definitely go along with this.
