The Fedora folks are not wasting any time; there is already a posted release
schedule for Fedora 8. It's a short (five-month) development
cycle this time, with the final release due on October 31. One can
already imagine the Halloween-themed release announcement.

I think they are aiming for 6 months, leaving one month for "unplanned" delays. But if they make it for Halloween, it would be spooky!

It will be hard work on such a tight schedule, but I believe that is the plan. Problem of course is that there are still binary blobs that cannot be redistributed and that OpenJDK is only available for 2 architectures, while GCJ and GNU Classpath are ported to almost all platforms. But the Planet Classpath community seems to be hacking very hard to make all those issues disappear.
