Probably a bad idea to change the name.

Because the concept behind Democracy Player is a new one, and is best described by the connotation with the term "democracy".

Plus the name change is going to dilute the media presence Democracy Player already has attained.

Debian should fork it, and keep it completely compatible except for re-branding it "Democracy Player". >;-)

Oops... I meant to delete the first sentence; after thinking about it (albeit briefly) I decided I didn't really have a strong opinion about the name, and intended to remove it. Ah well... next time I'll remember to hit Preview button once more just to be sure.

I really don't like the name, either. Very sadly, I agree it does seem to bring a whiff of manipulation -- Freedom Fries, anybody?

As for connotations with the term, they are indeed all over the free software world, not at all with this project in particular. So "DemocracyOffice", "Democracy eBook Reader", "DemocracyBlog" or "Democracy Printer Drivers" would be just as justified and just as grating.

Though, come to think of it, the term "Free" is really overworked in our world, so some help could come in handy.
