Here's a Reuters article about
new notebook computers from Lindows.com. "The company, which
already offers a $199 desktop computer running Linux software, introduced
its 2.9 pound Lindows Mobile PC computer running a 933 megahertz
microprocessor from Taiwan's VIA Technologies Inc. (2388.TW), a small rival
of computer chip giant Intel Corp." Thanks to Elijah P

This looks GREAT. But I'd like to see a review of it, giving info about battery life, speed, etc. Most people are not familiar with the processor used so the clock speed means absolutely nothing. What would be the clock speed of a Pentium with similar performance?

Agreed, particulary regarding the battery life. From my perspective the price isn't the most compelling aspect of this, as (most likely) faster laptops are available for a similar price; the weight is by far what intrigues me. Such low weight increases portability and could potentially equate to greater durability in my frequent, gracefully stated, bouts with gravity. That portability would be greatly dominished by low battery life.
Hopefully some more detailed reviews will appear shortly.

The Cyrix isn't a speed demon, but the video memory system makes as big a difference in performance. I have a 1.1 GHz Celeron system that feels a *lot* slower because the video memory is shared with main memory. I wouldn't buy a shared video memory system that didn't use at least DDR ram if you care about speed at all.
