Where by my estimates (having measured this stuff) "seriously speeds up" means "speeds up by two orders of magnitude". Ironically, I just gave a lecture to a machine learning class yesterday where I was whining about SA's uber-slow Perl ruleset that's been around forever: apparently they were listening. :-)
