No need to reboot it, unless you need to upgrade the kernel. (You probably can't run udev unless you do, but that matters less on a router than on an end-user box.)

Basically, you *have* to reboot at some point. It will, of course, let you continue running with no installable modules that match your kernel, and you might get away with it for a while. But it's pretty iffy. I don't want to destabilize my router, and there's no good reason to at this point.
