Ekiga videophone gets you connected (Linux.com)

Joe Barr reviews Ekiga on Linux.com. "For my next try, instead of finding a camera online and wondering whether it was supported, I selected a camera I found on a list of supported devices (registration required) and then tried to find it available for sale. As a rule of thumb, the newer the device, the less likely it is to have a Linux driver, and the older the device, the harder it is to find it for sale. I had better luck with the second camera I tried, a Creative Labs Ultra NX."

...list of supported devices (registration required)...

Don't fall off your chair just yet. Of course registration is only required if you want to post comments, not to see the list, device details and user comments.

Does anyone know of a vendor that sells explicitly Linux-supported peripherals, like scanners and webcams? Even if lists like the one linked in the article above are kept up to date, they tend to either list chipsets (which can be difficult or impossible to relate to a given model) or broad marketing names that might have one of several chipsets included.

I'd be willing to pay something of a premium for a device that I'm going to be able to plug in and use, and not have to fuss with or worry about returns.
