BSD wasn't the first. The first BSD-related kernel to have no AT&T
code was 386BSD version 0.0, released in March 1992. Coherent was
released in 1980 (it was proprietary, but not based on AT&T Unix).
Linux
was released in September 1991 (initially proprietary, but it was GPLed
in
February 1992).
