Thankyouthankyouthankyou, grumpy editor! I've been wanting to do this for a while but not had the time to investigate doing it under Linux. I really look forward to playing with this to get some sunrise pictures of my local cathedral. Some folks may also find the discussion on HDR with open source tools @ flickr to be useful. It focuses on pfstools.
