QOTW: "The other big benefit is that even the most carefully drafted proposal
tends to have some details not spelled out. If there's a draft
implementation, then the de facto answers to any questions can be determined
(and possibly objected to/ revised/ improved ) by reviewers." - Don Porter on
c.l.t

"The W3C and MS deserve each other - crap design meets crap
implementation." - Steve Landers

POTW:
    ANNOUNCE: tkpath 0.2.4
	http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/browse_frm/t...
Tkpath is an extension package to Tcl/Tk that provides much improved
graphic drawing capabilities for the canvas widget. It is best
    described
by looking at the sample web pages:
    http://tclbitprint.sourceforge.net/tkpath/quartz/index.html
    http://tclbitprint.sourceforge.net/tkpath/gdiplus/index.html
    http://tclbitprint.sourceforge.net/tkpath/cairo/index.html

    tclAppleHelp 1.1
	http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/browse_frm/t...
a critcl wrapper for Apple Carbon Help API functions, is now available.
    WHAT IS TCLAPPLEHELP?
tclAppleHelp allows you to use Apple's built-in help system for display
and searching of your HTML user documentation See
        http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Reference...
for the discussion of the Carbon Help API, and

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Conceptua...
for discussion of how to prepare and deploy user documentation in the
    Apple Help format. Homepage:
	http://tk-components.sourceforge.net/tclapplehelp/index.html

    Ann Getleft 1.2b2
	http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/browse_frm/t...
Getleft is a web site grabber written in Tcl/Tk, given an URL
it will download the whole site or, at least, the part of it
that fits the options given by the user.
    Homepage:
	http://personal.iddeo.es/andresgarci/getleft/english/

    ANNOUNCE: TclTalk 0.3.5.2
	http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/browse_frm/t...
TclTalk has reached 0.3.5.2 and should now run on both, Tcl/Tk 8.4 and
8.5. There's still a lot to do with the syntax emphasizer, but one can
allready create little programs like the contained
"wifimeter" (package require wifimeter), which works on Linux using iwconfig.

Thanks to Arjen Markus for his Wiki report, soon to complete its fifth year:
An anthropologist could probably learn a lot from the
evolution of major topics on the Wiki from week to week,
but to your humble chronicler it seems a chaotic
  system, unpredictable but very interesting.

  One way or another way
  - What does it mean that there is no distinction between
data and code in Tcl? <http://wiki.tcl.tk/17869>

  - Right, yet another way to use a functional programming
    style - <http;//wiki.tcl.tk/17879>

  - Just because crystals are so beautiful: an application
to visualise the source of that beauty at the microscopic
    level - <http://wiki.tcl.tk/17572>

  - Differences between platforms remain a source of
problems. Know thy environment and that of others:
    <http://wiki.tcl.tk/1110>

  IDE or not IDE
  - If you are used to an integrated development environment,
you may be surprised that Tcl does not come with one ...
    <http://wiki.tcl.tk/3549>

  - ... but with many! Here is an example for OSX, with
    smooth looking windows - <http://wiki.tcl.tk/15257>

  Humans and computers
  - The ideas for projects in the Google summer school
keep coming. You only need to bring some time now:
    <http://wiki.tcl.tk/17872>

  - Of databases, searching and the Wiki ... or is it
more of a personal thing? Anyway bits and pieces
of the discussion are worth reading -
    <http://wiki.tcl.tk/17841>

Everything Tcl-related you want is probably one or two clicks away in these
pages:
The "Welcome to comp.lang.tcl" message by Andreas Kupries
        http://www.purl.org/net/tcl-welcome
comp.lang.tcl is a crucial resource for Tcl practitioners.
An interesting perspective on its traffic appears at
        http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/about

The Tcl Developer Site is Tcl's "home base".
	http://www.tcl.tk

Larry Virden maintains a comp.lang.tcl FAQ launcher.
        http://www.purl.org/NET/Tcl-FAQ/

The Tcl Developer Xchange is a highly organized resource center
of documents and software with provisions for individuals to
maintain references to their own software:
        http://www.tcl.tk/resource/
The TDX sponsor, ActiveState, also keeps info to convince your
boss Tcl is a good thing
        http://www.tcl.tk/scripting/

The Tcl'ers Wiki is a huge, dynamic, collaboratively edited repository
of documentation, examples, tutorials and pontifications on all things
    Tcl.
        http://wiki.tcl.tk/0
For the ideal overview of the topics about Tcl most likely to
interest a newcomer, see "Arts and Crafts ..."
        http://wiki.tcl.tk/969
    There's also a high-quality Wikibook on Tcl:
        http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Programming:Tcl

ActiveState maintains binaries distribution and development tools
        http://www.activestate.com/Tcl
along with a Cookbook of Tcl recipes
        http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Cookbook/Tcl

deli.cio.us presents an intriguing approach to reference commentary.
It already aggregates quite a bit of Tcl intelligence.
        http://del.icio.us/tag/tcl

Cameron Laird tracks several Tcl/Tk references of interest (but
needs to validate many of the links).
        http://phaseit.net/claird/comp.lang.tcl/

Years ago, Cetus Links maintained a Tcl/Tk page with verified links
        http://www.cetus-links.org/oo_tcl_tk.html

    "Yahoo! Groups" archives comp.lang.tcl.announce posts--even
    though clta itself is dormant.
        http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tcl_announce/

We're working on more useful archives of past installments. In the
meantime, an alternative is

Suggestions/corrections for next week's posting are always welcome.
