Could you phrase posts like this in a way that doesn't anthropomorphize the Web sites? For example, "Jes Hall of Canllaith.org talks ...."

I think that it's traditional.

Like you would a Magazine they are treating the website itself as a publication.

People tend say: "Oh, did you see that article from Times about foo?'
Rather then: "oh, did you see that article from John Blow of the Times about foo?"

Both are valid expressions.
