Parent article: ESR's goodbye note

Unfortunately, while the CUPS rant had some tangible meat to it, this one seems to be just a rant. It's also inconsistent with many of his previous public statements about Fedora.

It would have been helpful if ESR had filed a bug report about the package that broke things, or indeed even said what FC release and repositories were in use -- or indeed, the package in question.

(This is particularly ironic given that ESR maintains the "how to ask smart questions" FAQ.)

Come on, he manually force-erased a critical system library. Of course things will break!

No it did not.
It was the same problem -- the guy didn't want to use the right tool for
the job. In the case of CUPS, I have not encountered a printer that didn't
show up correctly in the "Printers" KDE control panel applet for a long
time. Plug it in, fire kcontrol, install the cups drivers, print away --
including network printers.
I am a Kubuntu-using guy, but ESR's rants are normally tangible-meat-free.
:-)
