By "X-windows" I assume you mean the X server. If you check out where
the X server memory actually goes with e.g. pmap and xrestop, you
probably find out it's:
- video card memory mapped from the kernel
(i.e. not really X server memory)
- browser's pixmaps it's storing at the X server side
X server in itself uses fairly little memory.
