precisely the sort of thing Red-Hat/Fedora could and should have taken

That seems like a plug for Linspire to me.

It is, and that's the disturbing part the story.
That may have
something to do with Raymond recently joining the Linspire board. Read this
newsletter from a little more than a month ago, especially point
number 10.
Unethical to say the least. Eric S. Raymond, ladies and
gentlemen. It's a wonder he gets away with so much.
