Linux Gazette #135

I recently had some bad experiances with Ipcop.

I like the interface a lot, but when doing somewhat complex stuff, like running a bittorrent server from DMZ while trying to connect to it through ssh from 'green', it just falls on it's face.

I don't know what is going on, it's a kernel level thing were the machine just becomes unresponsive. This is a 300mhz pentium2 with 128megs of ram so as far as networking goes it should be easily handle anything I throw at it.

So I switched to a stripped down Debian Etch + Shoreline Firewall... which has just performed admirally. No snazzy interface, but I like the ability to edit text files. Plus it's much more flexible and configurable. Unfortunately, not realy usefull for somebody that doesn't understand the basics of networking or doesn't understand Linux systems much.
