Iwas just looking for my own problems and not bothering with the rest. I looked at that comment and said to myself, "oh darn, we didn't talk with AfterStep". FreeDesktop.org isn't really its own organization, it's either a collaboration of GNOME and KDE or it's Havoc Pennington's web site. I'm not sure. Anyway, I want to have a membership category for free software projects Thanks Bruce

It is simply one of many companies that work on Gnome, and produce distributions using code released by Gnome. Other companies that do this include Mandrake, Red Hat and Sun. Ximian's involvement in the consortium would be as representation for Ximian's interests. Not Gnome's interests (although these two do intersect in some areas).

Daniel Veillard summed things up in a message to the Gnome Foundation mailing list: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/foundation-list/2003-February/msg00002.html Not being part of the initial announcement does not preclude cooperation in the future.
