Tiny Linux computer aims at terminal/kiosk users (LinuxWorld)
LinuxWorld
takes a look at the tiny
Linutop computer.
"The gadget, about the size of a portable CD player, is an embedded Linux PC without a hard disk. It has four USB2 ports, for connecting a mouse, PC, keyboard and other devices (such as a USB Wi-Fi adapter, storage stick, etc.), and an integrated 100Mbps Ethernet port and VGA video output. Microphone and headphone jacks are also built in. The box itself runs AMD’s embedded Geode processor, with 256MB of memory, and 512MB of ROM, for storing the operating system image and applications."

Tiny Linux computer aims at terminal/kiosk users (LinuxWorld) Posted Jan 12, 2007 21:14 UTC (Fri) by fergal (subscriber, #602) [Link] The price ($360, 280 Euros) seems quite high, I put together a 2.4ghz, 512MB RAM, 250G disk "cube" pc for 300 euros just a few weeks ago (everything bought over the counter in Tokyo). I'd love a tiny, low power computer but this doesn't seem to be it.

Part of the costs are the lack of mass production of these systems, as they aren't sold that much, and part because they want to make more profit on it than a mere few percents. I bet they would make more profit if they sold it for 150 euros.

Certainly much better value than the fragile and expensive laptops from you-know-who with their bloated software load.

I like it a lot, there is a an article at linux devices
Tiny Linux computer aims at terminal/kiosk users (LinuxWorld) Posted Jan 14, 2007 9:41 UTC (Sun) by oak (subscriber, #2786) [Link] Although 128MB RAM is quite OK for little www-browsing,166Mhz MMX processor makes it pretty sluggish. For everyday browsing (also on sites using Flash), its speed should be at least doubled. And then one needs to add to the price USB mice & keyboard + screen...
