OLPC announces its user interface

The One Laptop Per Child project has sent out a press release proclaiming the virtues of the user interface it has developed. "The Sugar UI, jointly developed with Red Hat and Pentagram, is the first to have been purpose-built as an educational environment for children using laptops. It is designed to support the learning experiences of elementary- and secondary-school children in poor, often rural communities by providing them with opportunities to freely explore, experiment and express themselves."

Yet another of the DUMBING down of things in general .

All i can say is i am mighty glad non of my children or grandchildren will ever have to use such a bad piece of work , Are people forgetting Kids can find there way around a computer in a mere fraction of the time it takes an adult that bieng the case then why are people designing interfaces that a snail could get round and bears no link in common with the ACTUAL world of work thses kids are going to have to fall into like it or not (Oh of course i am sorry people are expecting to work in the future are they )

It sounds like you haven't read this piece and have no idea whatsoever what you are talking about. Look over the user interface in the Wiki. It is easy to use, but by no means "dumbed down". In fact, the ability to "View source" and "Develop" the underlying source code (with localization of python primitives in the roadmap, another first!) exposes the children to far more complexity than could ever be possible with proprietary software.

So it's as simple or as complex as the user needs or wants it to be. Which is how things should be.

Please do your homework before posting such worthless trollage as this.
