The Linux way to Flickr (Linux.com)

Linux.com looks at the Flickr Web portal. "The Flickr Web portal allows people to publish and share online, grouped and tagged by subject, whole galleries of digital pictures. You can use Flickr with several GNU/Linux-based applications. Developers can also use the API published on the Web site to obtain an API_KEY and build new interfaces to download, upload, or process pictures in Flickr. What might be less known is that Flickr already is another place where GNU/Linux users can meet, as well as a potentially very useful advocacy tool."

Then you miss the community and collective nature of Flickr. Not to
mention bandwidth issues.

Have you ever tried Flickr at all? Even if you don't care about the community/sharing aspects, it still is lightyears ahead of every "album" or "gallery" tool out there in terms of features and slickness.

Browsing various sites, I have been unfortunate to be sent to the flickr site for miscellaneous pictures I wanted to look at (gadgets - nothing naughty ;) ). But I find the flickr pages to be cluttered, non-intuitive and just a waste of my time. Sites set up with Coppermine or Gallery2 are much easier to view as a user. I will admit that they might be a pain to set up, though.

The most elegant solutions I have seen are a combination of Wordpress and Gallery2.
