Pioneer-Standard Announces Alliance with HP
to Support Linux-based Business Solutions for HP ProLiant Servers
-Industry leaders commit resources to Linux initiative for resellers and
end-users-
CLEVELAND -January 27, 2003- Pioneer-Standard, Inc. (NASDAQ: PIOS) computer
systems business, a leading distributor and reseller of mid-range
solutions, today announced an alliance with HP forged to advance
Linux-based HP ProLiant and Intel* Itanium* server solutions in the
marketplace. The objective of the alliance is for Pioneer-Standard and HP
to work together to help customers implement a Linux practice into their
existing UNIX platform environment. Through this partnership,
Pioneer-Standard and HP will establish Linux solutions resources to be used
for proof-of-concept and demonstration opportunities, enabling
Pioneer-Standard's end-user and reseller customers to integrate Linux
technology solutions throughout the datacenter.
"We offer an ideal distribution channel for Linux-based ProLiant servers
and Itanium-based HP servers running Linux," said Bob Bailey, executive
vice president, Pioneer-Standard. "Our dedication to operational
excellence and technical expertise in Linux combined with these HP server
offerings will provide our customers with the assistance they need to build
a Linux solutions portfolio."
As part of this relationship, Pioneer-Standard and HP will offer a variety
of Linux sales and technical support tools, such as Linux solutions white
papers and testimonials, server deployment and administration documents. In
addition, Pioneer-Standard's Professional Services Group (PSG) will provide
resource services-from design to installation. Customers will have access
to sales support personnel, product specialists and technical consultant
services for Linux. Pioneer-Standard and HP will focus on proven
Linux-based solution offerings including database, security, Linux
clusters, digital media, and mail and messaging-leveraging independent
software vendor (ISV) partnerships to customize solutions to meet
individual customer needs.
