MOTOROLA/METROWERKS UNVEILS LINUX-BASED PDA REFERENCE DESIGN
Motorola's Metrowerks software tools subsidiary demonstrated a
pre-release version of its Linux-based OpenPDA mobile device
software platform at LinuxWorld in New York this week. The
software was shown running on AMD's Mobile Client Reference Design
Kit (RDK), a ready-to-use mobile device design based on the Alchemy
Au1100 that can be licensed by device manufacturers and easily
adapted to their specific requirements.

IBM UNVEILS LINUX-BASED PDA REFERENCE DESIGN
IBM showcased an open standards based Linux/Java PDA reference
design at LinuxWorld in New York this week. Based on the IBM
PowerPC 405LP embedded processor, the reference design, dubbed the
"embedded Linux application platform" (e-LAP), is intended to
jump-start PDA manufacturers, who can use the design as is, or can
modify it to meet their own PDA, electronic book, or "personal
media device" requirements.

MONTAVISTA BOASTS FIRST OSDL-COMPLIANT CARRIER GRADE LINUX
MontaVista Software says their newly released Carrier Grade Edition
3.0, unveiled this week at LinuxWorld in New York, is the first
product that fully complies with the Carrier Grade Linux spec
released last year by the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL).

TELECOM INDUSTRY GETS A NEW CARRIER GRADE LINUX DISTRO
UnitedLinux announced plans to integrate the full OSDL Carrier
Grade Linux (CGL) 1.1 feature set into UnitedLinux 1.0.
UnitedLinux is a partnership of several Linux companies (including
Conectiva, The SCO Group, SuSE, and Turbolinux), which pools their
intellectual property to produce a uniform enterprise-oriented
Linux distribution.
